Morpho sulkowskyi is a remarkable butterfly of the family Nymphalidae endemic to the eastern slopes of the Peruvian Andes. Unlike most species of Morpho, which are renowned for vivid metallic blue wings, M. sulkowskyi displays luminous pearly white wings with subtle iridescent reflections. This unique colouration results from microscopic photonic structures within the wing scales that selectively reflect light rather than pigments. Its restricted distribution within Andean cloud forests and distinctive structural colouration make it one of the most scientifically significant and visually exceptional members of the genus.

This species inhabits humid montane cloud forests, where persistent moisture and moderate temperatures create highly specialised ecological conditions. Adults are slow, graceful fliers that navigate the forest canopy and shaded stream corridors, while the larvae develop on carefully selected host plants within the family Fabaceae. Like all butterflies, Morpho sulkowskyi undergoes complete metamorphosis, progressing through egg, larval, pupal, and adult stages. The species contributes to the ecological dynamics of Andean forests through interactions with native vegetation and participation in complex food webs.

The specimen has been professionally preserved to maintain the natural arrangement of the wings, the integrity of the delicate scale structure, and the fine anatomical characteristics that distinguish the species. Particular attention is given to preserving the microscopic wing scales responsible for its brilliant structural colouration, allowing the butterfly to retain its natural iridescence under changing light conditions. Museum-quality preservation ensures the specimen remains an accurate biological representation of one of the most distinctive high-altitude butterflies of the tropical Andes.

Rarity and Value Morpho sulkowskyi is a remarkable butterfly of the family Nymphalidae endemic to the eastern slopes of the Peruvian Andes.
