On one side, the medal bears a detailed portrait of Dzierżyński alongside the years of his life, symbolising his profound influence on the formation of early Soviet state security services. Below the portrait is an inscription in German: “Tschekist sein kann nur ein Mensch mit kühlem Kopf, heißem Herzen und sauberen Händen,” which translates to “Only a person with a cool head, a warm heart, and clean hands can be a Chekist.”

On the reverse, the medal depicts a uniformed soldier, presumably a member of the elite “Feliks Dzierżyński Regiment” in Berlin, alongside an architectural representation of an iconic structure of the era. The association with Dzierżyński, an instrumental figure in Soviet intelligence history, adds immense value, especially for collectors focused on Cold War relics or militaria. Its original presentation box, lined with red and blue velvet, further enhances its rarity and desirability.

Discovery:
Preserved with great care, this medal exemplifies the craftsmanship and symbolism of East German commemorative artefacts. It was likely issued in limited numbers to members of the regiment or as a ceremonial piece, making its survival into the present day a remarkable feat.

Human Touch:
Meticulously crafted, this medal features intricate details that highlight the skill of its creators. The carefully engraved portrait and soldier imagery reflect the propagandistic artistry of its time, encapsulating both historical reverence and the ideological narrative of East Germany. The velvet-lined case, designed to protect and present the medal, attests to the pride and significance imbued in its production.

This Feliks Dzierżyński commemorative medal is not only a testament to historical legacy but also a unique collectible embodying the craftsmanship, politics, and artistry of the Cold War era.

This rare commemorative medal honours the legacy of Feliks Dzierżyński (1877–1926), a key historical figure in Eastern Europe’s revolutionary history.
