This signed administrative document is associated with Kazimir Malevich, founder of Suprematism and one of the most influential figures of the twentieth-century avant-garde. Dated 17 January 1924, it records the accounting of museum property and bears Malevich\u2019s signature in the section relating to the Museum of Artistic Culture. Unlike an exhibition catalogue or later commemorative publication, the document originated within the institutional environment in which Malevich was actively working, teaching and developing his theories of non-objective art.<\/p>\n

The object is accompanied by an extensive forensic handwriting and attribution report. The photographed report compares the questioned signature with multiple known examples of Malevich\u2019s handwriting and signature, analysing letter construction, direction and continuity of movement, proportions, slant, rhythm and other graphic characteristics. Its conclusion states that the signature attributed to Kazimir Malevich on the 17 January 1924 document was executed by Malevich himself and that the examined act is authentic and possesses national and cultural value.<\/p>\n

Origin and Historical Context<\/strong><\/p>\n

Malevich developed Suprematism in the 1910s, establishing a radical visual language based on elementary geometric forms and pure colour rather than the representation of visible reality. His Black Square, first exhibited in 1915, became one of the defining images of modernism and what Malevich described as a new beginning for painting. The Malevich Society identifies him as the creator of Suprematism and confirms his birth in 1879, a date established through later archival research after 1878 had long circulated in earlier literature.<\/p>\n

The present document dates from an important institutional phase of his career. In 1923 Malevich became acting director of the Petrograd Museum of Artistic Culture, where he gathered students and colleagues around a programme combining artistic production with theoretical research.
