The sphere is carved from genuine fossilized dinosaur bone recovered from the Kem Kem Group deposits of Morocco, dating to the Cenomanian Stage of the Late Cretaceous Period, approximately 95–100 million years ago. The original bone belonged to Rebbachisaurus garasbae, a long-necked sauropod that inhabited the river systems and floodplains of northern Africa during a time when the region supported a diverse assemblage of dinosaurs, crocodilians, fishes, and other vertebrates.

During fossilization, groundwater rich in dissolved minerals penetrated the porous bone structure, depositing silica and other minerals within microscopic cavities. This process, known as permineralization, preserved the original internal anatomy of the bone while transforming it into a durable fossil.
