Sculpture “Emotions Under the Reins”

Crafted as a powerful metaphor for emotional discipline, Emotions Under the Reins explores one of the most enduring struggles of human nature—the balance between instinct and reason. The monumental horse, frozen in a moment of restrained movement, embodies raw strength, passion, determination, and untamed energy. Alex Kvant combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary sculptural language. The expressive anatomy of the horse is enveloped in hand-worked vegetable-tanned bovine leather, richly decorated using repoussé and leather embossing techniques that create an intricate ornamental surface. Contrasting textures of chrome-tanned leather, carved wooden elements, sculpted pulp forms, and architectural foam establish a dialogue between classical artisanal methods and modern materials. Suspended beneath the sculpted mane, an authentic antique brass sanctuary lamp introduces a symbolic source of inner light—representing wisdom, clarity, and spiritual guidance amidst emotional turbulence.

Both a sculptural object and a philosophical statement, Emotions Under the Reins reflects the timeless idea that freedom is inseparable from self-control.
