Rarity and Collectible Value

This signed photograph is associated with Zaha Hadid, one of the most influential architects of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. The portrait bears Hadid’s sweeping autograph in blue ink across the lower section, creating a direct personal connection to an architect whose work radically expanded the expressive possibilities of contemporary architecture.

Hadid became the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004, an achievement of major significance in a profession historically dominated by men. The award ceremony took place at the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, where the Pritzker jury recognized her sustained challenge to conventional architectural form and spatial organization.

Origin and Architectural Context

Born in Baghdad and later based in London, Zaha Hadid developed an architectural language defined by dynamic geometry, fluid spatial sequences and forms that appear to stretch, curve or fragment beyond traditional structural conventions. Her early reputation was built through radical drawings and competition projects, while later technological advances enabled many of those ideas to be realized at architectural scale.

The framed composition pairs Hadid’s signed portrait with an image of the Morpheus Hotel at the City of Dreams complex in Macau. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and opened in 2018, Morpheus is organized as a 40-storey structure pierced by large voids through its central volume. Its highly distinctive external structure was developed as the world’s first free-form high-rise exoskeleton, allowing the interior spaces to remain largely free from conventional supporting columns.

Image and Presentation

The display measures 45.5 × 2.5 × 36 cm and combines two photographs within a deep green and black mount. On the left, the architectural image shows the Morpheus Hotel with its lattice-like structural skin and large sculpted openings cutting through the building. The design is especially representative of Hadid’s mature work, in which structural engineering and visual form are treated as a single architectural system.

On the right, Hadid is shown seated in a formal portrait. Her autograph extends boldly across the lower part of the image in blue ink, remaining clearly visible against the dark clothing. A nameplate beneath identifies the photograph as personally signed by Zaha Hadid. The composition is enclosed within a broad gold-toned sculptural frame, giving the presentation a strong decorative presence while retaining a museum-style arrangement.

Human Touch

Hadid’s career is notable not only for the buildings she created but for the persistence required to bring an initially highly experimental architectural language into built reality. When she received the Pritzker Prize in 2004, the jury emphasized her refusal to accept established typologies and her ability to expand architecture’s vocabulary of space and geometry.

Her influence eventually extended across museums, cultural centers, transport buildings, residential projects, furniture and product design. The Morpheus Hotel shown beside her portrait is a particularly fitting example of this legacy: its voids, bridges, curved internal spaces and structural exoskeleton make engineering itself part of the architectural expression.

The signed portrait therefore represents more than an autograph of a celebrated designer. It connects the individual architect with the radical visual language she helped bring into contemporary architecture, making the piece a compact tribute to innovation, experimentation and one of the most recognizable design careers of the modern era.
