Lot Highlights
The Megalodon, belonging to the class of the largest marine predators, once ruled the oceans with its colossal size. Modern estimates suggest it grew up to a staggering 15 meters in length, weighing an astonishing 30-40 tons. Megalodon teeth are much larger (up to 2-3 times), more massive, stronger and more evenly serrated than those of its modern relative, the white shark. The diagonal length of megalodon teeth can reach 18-19 cm; these are the largest known shark teeth in the history of the Earth. Megalodon tooth of this size and preservation is very rare, as most fossils found do not exceed 8-9 cm in size and have suffered from the presence of barnacles. The tooth enamel and serrations are naturally preserved and have not been restored. The palette is rare, ranging from dark grey to charcoal black. Ancient organisms can be seen on the tooth under a microscope.
